Live Design: Color Me Goodd

15/03/06 12:44 PM

Introducing Pemtone chips (see what I’ve done there…)!

The mighty Pemtone chip

Well the Live Design process is slowly but surely getting there; as you will see I have added a bit of colour to Peminoz. I did want to wait and launch the site all together but the background picture wasn’t finished so I thought I would upload it ‘undressed’. The Pemtone chips image is now almost finished, just minor tweaking needed, so thought I would go for it.

I’d had the idea in my head for quite a while; I wanted a nice, clean, white blog design (surprise surprise), but also wanted some bright colour. I played around in Photoshop for a bit with paint splashes from brushes I made (I will make these brushes available to download soon if anyone wants them) but it didn’t look, well, very good. Enter Pantone chips to save the day. I had the idea of them ‘leaking’ colour if they were turned upside down and have basically finished with the image you see now. The paint dribbles need finalising but I’m quite happy with how it’s turned out, I like the way it frames the page quite nicely.

It was a bit of a labour of love; I drew the above image in Illustrator and copied it hundreds of times, changing the colour of each one and crossing that colour off my Pantone colour chart. I wanted it in vector format in case I needed to ever use huge Pemtone images. You know, for billboards and bus stops etc. Ahem.

I added the dribbles and splashes in Photoshop and put a slight cartridge paper background at the top. Job done.

And yes I have realised it looks a bit like those bastard Orange ads.

Unfortunately though it means my background image is quite large so I will be adding a simpler stylesheet shortly (this Live Design eh?) to save my poor bandwidth. If you don’t have broadband I can only apologise. I will let you know when the simpler stylesheet is ready, I bet you’re all on the edge of your seats.

Now I just have to finish the main photograph image. The ‘Peminoz’ neon sign was written by finger on my lap top touch pad (yeah, shut up) and looks cack… I really should use my tablet. Soon.

Anyway comments always appreciated…

Wow, pretty nice site. I like the fixed navigation, but I’ve seen the ‘webcam trick’ on Dave Gorman’s site. Love the grunge-feel, didn’t even realise it wasn’t finished. I love the colour swatches.

Love the technical edge to the comment (preview) too. Very nice. Thumbs up. And welcome to the Multipack.

Thanks Trovster, yeah I’m part of a proper club at last! Do we get badges?...

Seen it on Dave Gorman’s site you say, hmm, not had the pleasure but if an admittedly lame joke has already been done then it’s probably gonna have to come down. Damn that pesky Gorman.

Ha ha, thanks for that. Bugger. Well I think that’s sealed it. So long, ‘comedy’ web cam page. That’ll teach me to try and be clever.

    Naturally I’m crushed you understand.
