Not updating your blog is the new Friday

Change in the New Year

04/01/07 03:21 PM

I can’t believe I’m already sick of being back at work. Completely bored of it. Actually I can. I’m not even doing rubbish work like at the end of last year when everyone pretended I was a graphic designer (I spent the week before Christmas drawing cows. 7 metre wide cows. For Google. To go on their wall. To be fair it was for their Amsterdam office); I’m working on a good little website and am using Expression Engine for the first time so it’s actually quite interesting.

I’d just rather be watching telly. Except rubbish telly like that This Life +10 that wasn’t at all disappointing and no way should have bee left alone. They’ve left me wanting less...

BUT… I have discovered that I like Expression Engine, and I’m thinking of moving Peminoz from Textpattern. This obviously sets the ‘relaunch’ back a little bit but to be honest I didn’t make the reboot in November and I didn’t make the New Year so feck it.

I’ve previously used mainly Textpattern, sometimes WordPress, but have never touched EE or MovableType, etc etc because I’m a real pikey and refuse to pay when I could get my mate at work to build me a CMS anyway. But now there is a ‘core’ version of EE around for free it made me have a little look, if for nothing other than my CV.

First impressions are that it’s instantly a lot easier to use than the others I’ve tried, and that the code is mine, not something I’ve been forced into using by TP.

Anyway, I’ll probably document my migration here and then pick up on the old blogging for 2007 when I finally finish v2!

Hope everyone had a great New Year. Except my enemies.

You’ll have to let us know the transition to text pattern. I’ve never used any of those open source foundations but I’ve heard they’re cool.

Any chance of an early screenshot of the new design?

Am on the brink of a ‘realign’ myself, attempt to use Mephisto a Ruby on Rails CMS/Blog Engine but my RoR skills and lack of documentation stopped me.

Might have a look at EE myself but my current opinion is that if it’s good enough for the great Hicks it’s good enough for me!

    PS No RSS feed?

@Steve – EE seems a lot easier to grasp right from the word go than Textpattern did, so hopefully it’ll be up and running soon. Need to work out how to migrate articles and comments yet though! And early screenshot? No way…

@Andy – The feeds are one of a number of things sorted in v2, I just never got round to doing them on this, and thought I’d just wait and do everything at the same time. I’m kinda lazy like that really.

What's all this then?

Peminoz is Stu Hall's blog. Oh yes. Stu is a web guy enjoying web standards, accessibility and usability. And he's been known to talk about himself in the third person. More.
