It's Strange, But...

...Today doesn’t really feel like a day when England are playing in the World Cup. I’m not really excited enough. Perhaps it’s because it’s not a weekend or evening, and I’m currently at work, but last Saturday I was absolutely jumping and now I’m not.

Long gone are the days of studentdom when I watched every match without fail (sometimes the Mexico v Irans are better than the ‘big’ games) – these days I have the scores updating online during the day and I watch the 8pm kick-offs when I get home, catching the highlights of the others when I can.

On Saturday I watched the match in Sheffield with some mates – the pub was rammed, the atmosphere was great… and the match itself was pretty crap. I knew it would be purely because I was looking forward to it so much. Tonight’s promises to be another scorchio weather-wise and wouldn’t you know it, who are we playing? Those eskimos from Trinidad and flippin’ Tobago. Perfect.

I really hope it’s a great game, I really really want to be in the World Cup mood. Who knows it might even be better for us to go 1-0 down just to get us to attack! The other unfancied-ish teams have shown their intent (Spain were class against the Ukraine, I was impressed with Italy too), and I was going to describe last night’s Germany-Poland game as one of the most exciting 0-0s I’d ever seen, until of course Germany nicked it 1-0 right at the death. They’re gonna win this.

So I’ve got about 5 hours to shake myself out of this and get to how I felt on Saturday. It only comes round every four years Stu you idiot!

Come on!...
