England 2 - 0 Trinidad & Tobago

Phew. Never really in any doubt, was it…
Why do we England fans do it to ourselves?! Every time an international tournament comes round, despite myself, I genuinely believe that this could be our year. The way I see it is at some point we have to win it again, purely based on the law of averages. At some point we will. Surely.
And then we play a team with players from the Gillinghams and the Port Vales of the world (with all due respect) and labour to a victory that flattered us a bit. We were arguably the better side but then we should have been – it seemed a bit sad really that we had to bring Rooney on just to give us a bit of spark. Note the lack of the Theo, I’m wondering if Sven’s seen him in training and thinks he aint that special after all…
Still, I’m not one to slag them off; a win’s a win’s a win and all that. Played two won two with no goals conceded (thanks to John ‘JT’ Terry’s great clearance), we’re definitely through and yet haven’t played very well so you can’t really complain, I’d have certainly taken that a week ago.
We seem to do things the hard way don’t we but I guess that’s part of the fun, I mean who’d want 6-0-ers every game, that’s boring right? It’s much more exciting and not at all nerve-wracking to wait ‘til the 83rd and 91st minutes to win isn’t it? Eh? Oh.

The match was a dissapointing one in my opinion. You’re right, a win is a win, but if they continue to play at this level then we aint going to see many more of them. It was only in the late stages of the second half that England finally pulled their thumb out and played some really good football. Perhaps the start of things to come? I hope so!
